I’m Julia Pickering. Thanks for dropping by - I hope you’ll find something to amuse you. The Dialectic is a magazine comprising articles on a variety of subjects, some cultural, some topical. Mixed Media is a series of short pieces that give an overview of a subject, while the longer articles go a bit deeper. There is also series of occasional posts about fictional female role models called Let’s Hear It For…. If you’re wondering whether to subscribe, do take a look at the extensive archive.

Whatever your interests, please feel free to comment on any article. I would love to hear what you think. I’ve learnt a lot from readers who have joined in the debates since The Dialectic began in 2022.

When you subscribe current articles will go directly to your inbox, but if you prefer you can go to Settings and turn off your emails so that you just receive articles in your feed.

Some new posts are free, but a paid subscription will give you access to nearly two hundred archived articles and MUSICAL BOX, a weekly supplement for paid subscribers.
